1965 Shelby Cobra Replica

For the power and style enthusiast, everyone knows that having both in an original is way out of most peoples reach. In particular those all originals can be finicky and require lots of garaging and trailering, and little driving, unless you are pulling your personal wrencher in a motorhome with that classic!

As the saying goes there is more than one way to skin a cat, or you can have your cake and eat it too! The solution lies in this classic repro from Factory Five. And, in this case it’s all wrapped up for you. Just get in and drive. An award winning engine and along with 60 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies it has a lot going for it.

Exterior:
Words like Awesome, Really Cool, Gorgeous, Great Job come to mind when gazing at this car. Blue with white wide stripes running the gamut in the center harken back to the racing heritage these cars were racking up in the mid 60’s. A driver’s side chrome roll bar, wing glass side shield windows, and those amazing snaking from underneath big side pipes eminate from the front wheel well. Aluminum front and rear quick-jacks are in lieu of any bumpers. Also, lest I forget, authentic style knock off wheels wrapped in BFG Radial T/A’s. Definitely adorned and set up for a track somewhere near you.

Interior:
Black leather low back bomber style bucket seats with Simpson 4-point belts, black carpeting, black dash with plenty of toggle switches to keep you busy. A nice lineup of black faced gauges has everything one needs to keep the pulse on the car. Custom billet shifter, AC foot pedals, and a Cobra wood steering wheel are noted, and a large center hump keeps the bomber seats in check.

Drivetrain:
Flip the ultra light hood, and behold a 427ci V8 side oiler. Sporting Edelbrock aluminum heads, and inside are a steel crank and Wiseco Pistons. On top is a beautifully machined Blue Thunder Intake with dual Holley 4-barrel carbs covering the entire top end of the mill. A 5-speed manual TKO 600 transmission encased in a Lakewood blow proof bell housing is behind this beauty of a mill, and the rear axle uses a Lincoln 8.8 setup to spin the tires. MSD iIgnition system, power steering, loads of braided stainless with anodized fittings, and Cobra polished aluminum valve covers and air cleaner. Dyno proven at 475hp.

Undercarriage:
A black painted custom tube and bar chassis, custom fabricated aluminum inner structure, firewall, and trunk floors. All polished stainless-steel bolts, stainless braided brake lines, all finished to show quality. Front features power rack and pinion steering, rear features independent suspension system with 4 link tubular A arms and adjustable rear coil-overs. 4-wheel disc brakes all around with frame mounted dual brake booster to put the hooks out!

Drive-Ability:
This car with its awesome power can quickly become a handful, so we took it easy. It was nice to listen to the powerful roar as we accelerated up to highway speed and took a few corners in the track where it handled like it was on rails. Bias free braking, and all functioning and all added up to a pleasurable and exciting experience.

Overall a beautiful presentation with a shade of bluer and textures you just do not see everyday. Well kept, but driven, and consigner states he has tooled around with several celebs in this eye catcher. Plus, it’s a neck snapper, and thrill giver.
