Gateway Classic Cars Houston Showroom is excited to present this awesome Factory Five Racing Gen 3 Type 65 Daytona Coupe. The good folks at Factory Five have been making some great packages for those looking to build their own replica of some of the greatest American racing cars built by Carroll Shelby and his Skunkworks gang, and this one is no exception. Ferrari’s 250 GTO had superior aerodynamics vs. Shelby’s AC-based Cobras in the long high-speed stretches on tracks like LeMans, where the open cockpit Cobras gave up 30 MPH (costing nearly 10 seconds/lap) sheerly due to the lower aero drag of the 250 GTO. Designed by Peter Brock and with assistance from Ken Miles, it turned out to narrowly miss beating Ferrari for the Manufacturer’s trophy in GT Class in 1964; but ended up triumphing with a class win in 1965. Now is your chance to have a bit of “modern(ized)” history! Almost 2 years in the making, this Type 65 Coupe is something special. The body is covered in a gorgeous pearl white metallic, which is split by twin racing stripes that look black but are really a dark gray metallic. Suffice it to say that in bright sunlight, this machine is bedazzling to the eye. But don’t let the “beautiful lipstick” fool you into thinking this is just a pretty car. Fuel delivery is provided by a Holley Sniper Stealth 4150 Electronic Fuel Injection system, ensuring daily driver reliability. Other noticeable adds include a Holley EFI in-line electric fuel pump, MSD Billet distributor, a Tilton 40000 Series Super Starter, manually-activated transmission cooler with Tilton oil cooler pump (up to 2GPM at 50psi max), a Sonnax T3-3-2491HP Forged Chromoly 1350 slip yoke, C&R 2-pass radiator with Heat Exchanger, Flex-a-Lite 3000 CFM electric fan with integrated custom fan shroud, Setrab Remote Mount Oil Cooler, Accusump 2QT Oil Accumulator with 20psi valve, System 1 Remote Mount Oil Filter with 35 micron element, Firebottle Fire Suppression System (with automatic nozzle for the fuel cell area, and a manual pull in the cabin to trigger the 2 nozzles in the engine bay), and custom FuelSafe 22 gallon Factory Five Enduro Cell fuel cell…and, as they say on TV, “but wait, there’s more”! Behind that nasty 427 is a Tremec TKO 600 5-speed manual transmission, equipped with a White Lightning Midshift Kit and short throw shifter. A Tilton ST-246 Twin Disc Street Clutch with billet chromoly steel flywheel and 6100 series hydraulic release bearing transfer power via a custom aluminum driveshaft from the mill to the pumpkin. Speaking of the “pumpkin”, the third member is all Moser Engineering: a Moser 9″ Ford Auto-Cross Edition Full Float Rear End Package with Factory Five 3-link setup is outfitted with gun drilled 31 spline axles, plus Moser’s 9″ Ford Street/Strip Third Member with Nodular Iron case housing [which is fitted with a 3.89:1 gear set (with lightened ring gear)], Detroit Locker, and 1350 Chrome Moly pinion yoke with aluminum Daytona pro/street pinion support. This street legal race car is riding on some super sticky Yokohama ADVAN A502 radials, which wrap the custom Forgestar F14 wheels (18×9.0 front, 18×11 rear, including a 18×9.0 spare), providing both good looks and serious handling performance. Suspension duties are courtesy of Factory Five‘s well-designed setup and include Koni Double Adjustable coil-over shocks at all corners, Factory Five bumpsteer tie rod kit, front and rear solid control arm bushings, and front and rear adjustable splined sway bars. Inside the cockpit, you can instantly tell that this is a race car that has been built for regular street use. Even though it may appear to be function over form, it isn’t. The custom engine turned stainless steel dash and door panels are by Rigidized Metals, and they look great. The dash is well laid out and features a huge touch screen Holley EFI 12.3″ Pro Dash in the center, with all switchgear clearly labeled. The front/rear brake pressure bias can be read, and easily adjusted by a simple twist of the Tilton brake bias adjuster knob to the left of the steering wheel. The cloth covered lightweight aluminum Kirkey racing seats are more comfortable than they look, and the Simpson Racing harness belts will keep you in them quite securely. The thick leather-wrapped Grant steering wheel has a top index mark, and has been fitted with a Motion Raceworks SFI Quick Release Steering Hub. It also gets its own dedicated, roll bar-mounted hanger hook for storage and quick access once you’ve gotten situated in the pilot’s seat. Once you’ve nestled yourself in that racing bucket seat and attached the steering wheel, just initiate the start sequence, release the E-Stopp electric parking brake (which can also double as a discreet anti-theft device), snick the shifter into gear, and head out for one of the most exhilarating driving experiences you’ll ever have. You’ll appreciate the adjustable Wilwood pedal setup, which allows drivers to get them adjusted for their position preference, further customizing the cockpit to their desires.
